Happy International Women's Day
I have realized that a woman who lives as an individual and not based on gender is termed too ambitious, proud, and gregarious not just by the opposite gender but even fellow women who have had an "I can't even imagine" image of woman planted and rooted in them. But then I ask Why?. Why do you think she is just a woman?. Why does she have to be under a limit because of gender? Moreso, who is a woman? I'll love to know in the comment section.
Once upon a time, a coursemate said to me and I quote "you're doing too much for a woman", as much as I was not at all pleased with that statement, I was also not too sad. It was a two-sided feeling hahaha. Why? I was partly pleased because I instantly realize that he may not know it but I was surely challenging the norms he understood and on the other, I was partly annoyed because he is among those who would never appreciate a woman doing more. In agreement with what I said earlier a demeaning image of a woman is planted and rooted in him.
I have a regret on that issue, which was not asking him a question like "what are the supposed things a woman is to do all her lifetime?". I would have loved to hear his response and that may even shed more light and knowledge on my story today. Because in my spirit I sort of know his reply to the question. I would have been so glad to prune his understanding and even yours the more with that conversation.
I mentioned earlier above about a woman living like an individual. I guess you wondered what I meant in that statement. Well, your answer is here. To me, a woman living as an 'individual' is: Being responsible for one's self, the actions, mistakes, image, lifestyle, progress, failures, career, survival, and everything that comes with existing.
Young girls are raised having the mentality of accepting limitations and stereotypes that limit them from fully harnessing their potentials, strip them of confidence and place them where life wants and not where they want. I was that type of girl but writing this piece should let you know that I know better because I decided to, I decided to step up and challenge the status quo.
The good news about this all is not even me. It is for you to BREAK THE BIAS, to spike the needed change in your mind and produce the rightful results. Dear Men and Women reading this piece, today is International Women's day. As we commemorate this iconic day Let's hold hands together with our inner minds and each other, with our heads raised high. Let's revive our mentality, seek out revival and step up into the supposed revolution which is raising confident, smart, and game-changing girls, encouraging strong women, and raising boys who will grow into men that will appreciate and encourage these women.
Happy International Women's day.
